Jet Pilots
General Public and GA Pilots Flying In

Introduction:

TEN YEARS! That's right folks, the Maine Jet Rally is a decade old.

When Ray and I started this event we weren't sure what to expect, but we hoped for a world class event that would be fun, family friendly and laid back. I think we did pretty well. HOWEVER, there is always room for improvement!

This year will be the most amazing yet.

For those who haven't been here before, this is an AMA event. Jet pilots must have their AMA or MAAC cards and waivers or letters of proficiency (for turbine pilots) in order to participate.

The Maine Jet Rally enjoys the full support of the Town Of Sanford, the Airport Manager and the FBOs based at the field.

Dates and Times:

Friday through Sunday, September 12-14
Friday (pilots only -- warmup flying) 12-7
Saturday -- all welcome -- 9-5
Sunday -- all welcome -- 9-3

Location:

Sanford Municipal Airport (SFM), Sanford, Maine.

Hosts:

The event is hosted by Antony Parchment, Ray Labonte and the Portland Propsnappers RC club. If you have questions about this event, please send them to Antony Parchment at antonyparchment@hotmail.com

Facility:

Sanford Airport is a top knotch general aviation facility with two intersecting runways each 6,000 and 5,000 feet in length. We fly off of Runway 07 which is 6,000 x 150. The runway is closed to full scale traffic for the three days of the event, except for emergencies or jets needing the ILS runway and reporting in 10 minutes prior to landing. Realistically we have no full scale traffic for three days. Our flight pattern does not intersect the flight pattern for runway 14/32. FBO staff and airport staff monitor the radio frequencies and interact with aircraft if needed.

RV Facilities:

Parking on-site is available for RVs, but no electrical or water hook-ups are available.

Jet Fuel:

Fuel is available on-site at the local FBOs, Southern Maine Aviation and Sanford Aviation

Special Features for 2008:

We have something a little different and a little special this year. In the past you have been treated to fly bys of full scale jets, amazing aerobatics from the likes of Dave Shulman, John Glezellis, Wes Blake.

This year we are kicking it up a notch, it that's possible. We are going to settle that old dispute once and for all. Who are better aerobatic pilots -- the guys who fly models, or the guys who fly the big ones.

This is going to be a timeless duel. Details to come!

Introduction:

The Maine Jet Rally is a radio controlled model jet airshow featuring a variety of scale replicas (models of actual aircraft) and sport jets. These planes are capable of flying at 200 miles per hour and performing almost any aerobatic maneuver imaginable. The majority of the planes attending are powered by miniature turbine engines like the ones found on business jets and military aircraft. If you have never seen a radio controlled jet fly, you are in for a treat. If you have seen one fly, you will not miss this event!
